(A “Once Upon a Time”-Fanfic. Let me start by explaining myself:
I have so many baby-feels I need to let them all out. Set after the season 3 finale, and written before I could read too many season 4 spoilers. I have no clue how many chapters this is going to get, probably more each day if people like this.
English is not my native language, so please ignore all of the mistakes. Fanmade characters mixed with the original “Once Upon A Time” cast. I hope I can honor them all. There may be some inconsistencies, but hey, it is fantasy, right? If the makers can get away with it, so can I.)
Summary: Emma and Hook messed up the time-space continuum by changing the past and saving Marian. This does not only affect Storybrook in the present, but also the Enchanted Forest…in the future.
‘No…’ Neal mumbled, almost inaudible. Of course, Penelope saw that one coming. The son of the perfect couple Snow White and Prince Charming would never choose who would live and who would die. He would want to save them both, something that was not possible for this particular situation, Penelope thought. ‘Then Sarah will die…’ She answered, almost emotionless. ‘How can you even say that?’ Neal asked, breaking through his haze of confusion. ‘There has to be an other way.’ He said again, where Penelope answered: ‘There isn’t. I checked. Do you think I want Sarah to die?’ Neal pressed his lips together in a small line. It almost seemed as he had stopped breathing, because his face turned a little bit purple. The tension in the room was coming to a climax. If Neal and Penelope stayed together for much longer, there would be an explosion.
‘Let’s just…imagine…’ Neal started talking again, with big sighs and not making eye contact with Penelope. ‘…I would agree to this. How on earth are you planning on saving Sarah?’ Penelope had to suppress a little smile. The victory was near. Even though Neal asked this out of “curiosity”, she knew he was turning. Just a tiny push and he would agree…’Easy.’ Penelope answered as if it was so obvious. ‘I will go back in time and change the past.’ ‘Go back in time?’ Neal squealed, surprised by the answer. Penelope shrugged and Neal shook his head. ‘I thought that was very hard, almost impossible, no, impossible, to do.’ ‘Well…not really…’ Penelope said and started casually crossing the room. ‘Normally it would involve a lot of messy parts, I won’t share the details with the weak hearted…’ She mumbled and glanced out of the corner of her eye at Neal for a second. ‘But since the past has already been changed, I believe there is another way. Something less messy and more effective.’ ‘Like?’ Neal asked, getting irritated. He hated these “Penelope-mind-games”. She always had to show off she was smarter than anyone else.
‘A magic wand, my dear King.’ Penelope answered with a grin. Neal’s eyes grew big as his mouth opened and closed like he was a fish gasping for air. Penelope took advantage of the situation to explain further her plans, hoping she could convince Neal…and if that would not work, she could always trick him. She was the smart one. ‘I believe the previous time traveller did it that way. That means the magic is in the wand and I can use it. Well, maybe not exactly “me”. Since saving someone’s live seems to be more from your side of the family, only you can activate the magic in the wand.’ ‘So you need my help?’ Neal asked, finding his speech back. Penelope nodded. That was the little part of her plan that she did not like. Penelope had no problem with going back in time and killing someone, how harsh that even sounded, the problem was she could not do it, as long she did not have Neal on board of the operation.
